I dig it. Reminds me a lot of the stuff on Red Hot Chili Pepper's One Hot Minute album.

I could use a bit more punch and body to the snare though, it sounds awfully flat (don't you love music adjectives...lol). Maybe too late, but I think a snare that's a bit ringy would sound positively funky on this piece.

Other than that it sounds good to me.

THANKS FOR LISTENING!!

i've got some more tweakin to do.
maybe change the drum groove a bit, maybe thicken the bass a bit, maybe change the snare tone.

Sounds very good - nice guitar playing. I agree about the ringing snare -would be great if you're able to put that in

Some cool ideas here, I have to agree with the snare, it's like it needs some hollowness and and a little ring. The bass is too janaga janga if you know what I mean. I'd think I'd lay back on both guitars in some areas, I like when you're doing, the call and response thing, but the best areas in the song are without 2 guitars. It just seems like they're in a competition instead of complimenting each other. Especially at the beggining, too busy and you're not really enforcing the melody of the song. Great playing as usual! As far as mix goes, you have that down pat.

thanks for listening!
you know, i went in to the studio last night, and started changing that snare out.
i found one, that might work..
i'm gonna work it for a while, and see how it ends up.
funny, but changing just one thing in a mix like that, causes me to have to look at everything else from scratch.
certain frequencies, that were not there on the first pass at mixing, now are there, and everything interacts with everything else.
learning experience.

i love that janga janga!!
think, old school dregs.
that's what i was going for.
as it is, i rolled off 1.45khz at a sharp Q last night, and THAT got rid of a bit of the upper bite.
then, a low Q boost at 100hz, and 280, seemed to round it out a bit.
i'll post the new version sometime soon.....

i'm going to play with the (3) guitar parts that are the rhythm behind the opening section...
it's the spastic soloing, that makes it seem wrong.

the rhythms, by themselves, are tight and together, but the two going together sounds a bit frantic, eh?!
LOL
i might try doing the simple thing, of taking one rhythm track slightly panned for a bit, then bring the other on the other side, and take down the first, then blend them all back near the end of the riff...
that kind of thing.
automation is killer.
:D

I can just imagine the automation, I'm not sure if automation is a blessing or a curse some days. I like the riffs at the beginning, just establish a bit of a melody so it doesn't turn into noodling if you know what I mean. If you can pull it of with 3 guitars kudos to that for sure! As for the bass it's a personal preference nothing necessarily wrong with it. I'm hearing more of a Guns and Roses janga janga and I rather hear the Yes kinda janga janga if you know what I mean

Great work even as it stands though. Keep it up, nice to hear some new songs from you!

Some excellent ideas, riff, snippets and tones - love the bass but I don't think it makes a song.
A treasure trove for later raiding?

for me, the automation is a blessing.
cuz i do so many things during a mix, i couldn't do it freehand...
too many tracks.
a lot of it is simply on/off stuff......
i'll play extra riffs and whatnot, and go back and weed them out as i 'produce' the final mix.
i AM tweaking the bass tone tho... i think i've found a mix that keeps the best of the janga, and dumps the worst of the janga.

janga janga.
LOL

A treasure trove for later raiding?

EXACTLY!!
LOL
thanks for listening....

TOTALLY not my style, but I still like the recording. Great interaction between the instruments. I thought the lead could have used with alil bit more gain, but hey it's your style - you name the shots. Really nice man.

I like it but it's not as coherent as your other stuff. This one seems kind of disheveled and frantic.

The recording though is very good. Guitars and playing sound awesome as usual.

You have some of the most intricate arrangements. Hard for me to latch onto anything though...as soon as I settle into a groove you've whizzed off in another direction. No comments on the mix...sounds great.

You packed a ton of stuff into a very condensed package. I like the bass sound for this tune - I think it works well.

Mish-
thanks for listening, even tho it's not your thing..
i appreciate it.
thru the years, i've back off more and more, with the gain of my solo tone.
now these days, i'm trying to get more of the sound of the actual guitar to come thru, and the gain i DO use, is really just more for sustain and harmonics. of course, there's a lot of clean guitar on this one, and i usually use more gain as a rule, for rhythms.
this one was a bit of a departure for me.

kind of an experiment.

greg L-
coherent? i promise i did not do any drugs during this recording session.

no, i can't make that promise.
LOL

Heatmiser-
i whiz off a lot these days.....!
LOL
i've re-mixed this last night, and the bass has taken a meatier, less 'pointed' sound.... i hope it still works.

just last night, i put the finishing touches on a brand new mix... and added a really sweet, spacey long delay, to just ONE of the solo tracks at the end slow section.
the other one stays dry...
so you get the call and response, with a very grounded, pure, unaffected guitar, and a super spacey pink floydish affected guitar.
best of both worlds!!
heheh

i also re-did the snare sound completely...
took out some of the busy guitar parts..
it's really quite different now, with a serious listen, it's got a new flavor now.

don't know whether to post the changes or not...

woops, just found out the site hosting my tune has been down for a couple of days.....
it's back up!
