Hi All,

I'd be most grateful of your expert opinions, please!

We recorded 4 tracks as a demo, but haven't really done much with it since - thus the songs have remained pretty much unheard outside our band.

The singer, Amy, had written this acoustic ballad and had it kicking around for a while, but we didn't know how to arrange it for a band. We nearly dropped it for good - until I had an idea to up the tempo and put a breakbeat style drums and bass.

Still unsure whether the arrangement has worked or murdered the song!

Amy: Music/lyrics/vocals/violin
Me: Guitar
Pete: Bass
Lee: Drums

Cheers!

Sounds really good to me. I like everything i hear.

The only problem for me is that it sounds a bit like when you're mixing a song and you mute stuff out to hear the vocals better.

I think it needs more/fuller guitars, and intermittent vocal harmonies. The melody is too repetitive to get by on its own.

Sounds better towards the end when the strings come in, but its still missing main rhythm in my opinion.

Sounds like a lot of neg from me, but i did really enjoy listening!
She sounds a bit like shakira!!

Muzwel, this is very good.

I think Amy's vocal delivery is too staccato during the verses. I'd like to hear her string some of the notes out. It's like she's choking the melody.

The mix has a midrangey sort of feel. It's tight in that regard but a little narrow by the same token. YMMV.

Thanks for sharing. Good stuff.

Thanks for your comments guys. It's interesting to get a different take on things.

I feel the band has a unique musical style - which can make it difficult to know how to arrange the songs. We played it safe with the recording, and laid down the track as we'd perform it live. Probably a missed opportunity not to explore how we could have opened it up.

Fantastic forum by the way.

If that's how you play live and that's what you wanna put across, my feedback isn't really relevant.

I guess it's easy for people to say add this and add that, but ultimately it's your sound, and it's a good one. :)

I'm torn on the reverb - or lack of it on the vocals. The playing/ singing is great - captured right and mix so that Amy stays out front which for me is crucial. Kudos to the drummer for keeping this movong along nicely.....:D

Nice work with the tweaking 60s' Guy! I'm surprised how much it changes the nature of the track. I do however prefer the dry mix. Just a personal preference, but I like the 'intimacy' of the dryer vocals. Almost feels like she's sitting next to you singing the song.

Thanks for all the feedback.
