i'll be recording mostly vocals and acoustic guitar through this... folky kinda stuff. just bought a stereo pair of earthworks SR71s... and i'll probably buy an ADK hamburg for my vocals... so... if you can venture a guess at which would meet my needs better... go for it.

The Brick is a great preamp but is a single channel, I never tried the RNP so I can't comment on how the two compare but the RNP has two channels for not much more money.

...and welcome to the Earthworks crew. :)
My best are a pair of RNP's and a True Precision 8. Both are very solid and sweet.
A few pluses and minuses; Sometimes I want to trim the gain during a take and the RNP has 6db steps. The P-8's min-gain of +15. Hot signals will need external pads.
Double outputs on the P-8 for direct monitoring (latency? What latency? :p) or a live split.
Inserts for the RNC on the RNP. (I've been using the inserts for the monitor split, but that doesn't leave much of a tracking with comp and monitor solution.)

Enjoy. :D

I own the RNP, Brick and GR ME-1nv. Each has it's place and own color. I love the Mid range bite the RNP has and the Brick has nice high end clarity. I am recording a rock group now and everyone agrees the DI Bass sounds killer through the Brick. The brick is sweet but, mono.

Glad to see you post the question

I have pretty much narrowed the field down to the two that you are deliberating between.

The manufacturer of the RNP will confess on its website that the RNP uses a Wall Wart power supply as a cost saving measure. On other BBS, some of the more gear-snob oriented users have stated that this give the Brick the advantage.

The RNP also claims to not color the sound. Folks seem to like the way the Brick colors.

Now, with this said, let me tell you what makes me really like the RNP: It is manufactured by an Austin company. As I too live in Austin and am using a Digi 002, I feel compelled to support the local biz. You know, keeping Austin wierd. However, I am still trying to decide.

If you're just doing accoustic-y folky stuff, and you don't already have a lot of nice mic pres, then get the RNP and have 2 solid channels. If you're trying to round out an already strong stock of mic pres with one channel of something a little different, then go for the brick.

Borntoplease,
I just recently got an adk Hamburg (for vocals). I just recorded with it and I'm loving it. It is smooth and warm sounding. Before I was recording with a studio projects b1, which was nice, but the hamburg is a better fit for my vocal range/style. I will soon be posting a the recording along with another song I recorded with the b1 to show the difference.
Earthworks.. nice! congratz.
I am using a safesound p1 :)
