Would you say the grace is twice as good as the RNP?

Or would you just say that they are both excellent preamps, just for different uses?

I would think that having a grace 101 (or a pair of them), AND and RNP would give you a nice variety. From crystal clarity, almost to a fault, to a little bit of colour.

that's about it: both are excellent. the grace is more readily apparent as a high quality pre. the realism of the grace is kind of like those photorealistic paintings such as:

i think the grace is a little bit better pre but i could see someone else thinking differently.

I have never seen a picture of the back panel of the Grace 101. Does it have 1/4" unbalanced output capability, or would that require some sort of adapter? The RNP clearly is capable of connecting to an unbalanced line connector, but I can't tell about the Grace 101 from what I've read so far.

The Grace 101 has an XLR and a TRS out. However, it has a unique wiring scheme. Depending on your set up, you might need to get a TRS or XLR and have a 1/4 plug wired on the other end according to Grace's specs to connect to 1/4 unbalanced. It's no biggie.
