I have pro tools, and the waves plug ins. I have the rcompressor plugin, and rvox plug for compression tools. Are these plug ins just as good as the 200 dollar RNC1773, or does this hardware blow the plug ins away?

I've heard the rnc is spectacular for it's price, and even not for it's price. Generally, I think analog signal processors are better. I don't know muhc about digital though.

yeah im just wondering though if a 500 dollar plug in would sound equal in quality to that analog processor. If the rnc sounds better, im willing to dish out 200 for it. Anybody?

Aside from the fact that its a bit more difficult to use an RNC within pro tools (and it can't be done with an Mbox, only the 002's) it kicks the snot out of the Waves plugs, IMO.

The waves plugs are great, don't get me wrong, but the RNC does sound better to me.

Anyway, I insert the RNC (in Supernice mode) on the master channel with I'm mixing ITB (hook it ins and outs to the same numbers in and out, then insert that channel in Pro Tools). :D Most of the time I mix analog, though, and its much easier to use the RNC as an insert on the mixer.

You can also use it while tracking, but you have to know what you're doing. Worth learning and doing, though. The RNC is a kick butt little box.

Take care,
Chris

awesome, so its actually good enough to use over an entire mix huh? Sounds good to me. A little more work then plug ins, but worth it.

Thanks for the advice.

Frankie,
I have both the Renaissance Compressor and 3 RNC 1773's. While both sound great the RNC does sound clearer. However, the Renaissance compressor is more convenient cuz you can just insert it quickly. That being said, I'll sell you one of my RNC's for $130 shipped if you're looking to buy one, I came to realization this weekend that since I've gone digital, I only need 2. Drop me an e-mail at Todd_Baran@hotmail.com if you're interested, otherwise I hope my advice is of some use.

Yeah- I just saw your ad. (sigh) I *only* have 2, and since I've gone analog I want 10. :D And another 10 RNLA's- my one just gets 200 much use.

Not today, though. Good luck selling it- I doubt you'll have any trouble.
