I know the RNC is praised here but I've been reading again, and heard good things bout the dbx. Go ahead and post a link if I'm bad in my searches. Throw whatever else you want at me, except for the Neve 33609 b/c I think I probably can't afford that one.
I have the RNC and a DBX 160X, not far off from the 160A in sound. I think the DBX overall has a more pleasant sound. The RNC is neutral sounding and does its job well but I just end up using the dbx on more things.
It's great on a bass, kick and the occasional vocal. The RNC breaks down under low frequency sources if you are not careful. If I could only have one, I would opt for the dbx.
