I went ahead and ordered the dual RNC rig with the '69 Merc face-plate from Mercenary Audio.

One RNC is two channels right?

Do any of you use two sources into each RNC channel? Just curious to know how practical this is... being that rarely do two sound sources have similar sonic artifacts.

I believe it is a stereo only unit. You would use it for a single mono source, stereo micing, keys, or a stereo mix.

Since both channels will use the same controls and be triggered by the same levels you will end up with one channel triggering the compression for the other channel when it doesnt need it.

If you want 2 completely seperate channels you need a dual mono compressor.

I got the Merc. Each RNC is a stereo unit but can't be used in dual mono. Since you get two though, it's an easy work around.

you could feed two mono signals into the RNC if each of the signals needed the exact same type of compression. That isn't a very common situation, though.

True. Sometimes I'll run a stereo sub mix of drums through one.

Or even run a keyboard and a bass through the two sides of the RNC. As long as the threshold, ration, attack, release, and gain are close enough, you should be able to get away with it. Like I said before though, it's not a very common situation.
