Hammerfall Lite

Great card, a pure and simple recording interface with no frills and great sound quality, plus massive expandability for the future.

It's digital only, so you need some form of A/D converter, which puts the price up a little. I opted for the AEB4/I analogue expansion board with four jack inputs - quite sufficient for synth recording.

For more involved setups you might want to consider a standalone A/D D/A box (RME do 2).

If you're in the UK, consider buying from Germany as they are a lot cheaper there (go to www.Thomann.de for the latest price in sterling).
