RME multiface or delta1010?

By no means am i a professional recording engineer. I am someone who enjoys recording my own music and is interested getting the sound possible without spending loads of money. I'm about to venture into an 8i/o soundcard. Money is of no issue in this situation. I wouldn't mind going for the RME if it was truely worth it.

Is there an obvious audible difference between the sound quality of the RME multiface and delta1010? Basically if i recorded a song with each one, would i be able to say wow, the RME sounds way better.

Opinions of each, either positive or negative, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brandon

oh yeah, i will be recording with nuendo. seems like rme is geared towards, but i use an omni studio right now with nuendo easily, so the delta1010 would probably work well too.

I have a multiface and couldn't be happier. I can't make comparisons to the 1010 b/c I have never heard it, but it was a huge upgrade from my stock soundcards. What I really like is the portablility too, I use it with my laptop and it is only 1/2 rack size. This may not be an issue for you.

I have great low latency and the converters are known to be top notch. The support is also excellent.

If you are using nuendo, the multiface is rebranded under the nuendo name, I think maybe it is called multilink. Given the close relationship, RME+Nuendo may be a pretty seamless combo.

They will both do you just fine, especially if you're not planning on selling your services or producing something top-notch.
That said, the RME seems to be better in almost every aspect. The convertors are better, the PCI card is better (0% CPU usage!), it has more I/O options, drivers are rock-solid, yadda yadda yadda... if money is no object, then yes, the RME will likely be better. However, the "wow" difference you're talking about depends largely on your ability to give it a good signal in the first place. The RME could do more with a good signal than a Delta1010 could, but they can both do wonderful things.

If you have a good ear, a knack for recording, and a good signal chain (mics, pres, etc), you will probably be able to say the RME sounds better. You will probably not say "wow, it sounds WAY better" though.

By the way, if money is no issue to you, I'd love it if you could share some of this non-issue to those of us who have it as an issue and can't afford whatever the hell we please ;)

good luck.

When i say money is no issue, i meant the different between the RME and 1010. I wouldn't mind shelling out the extra money for the RME if it was worth. If money was truely not an issue, i don't think these two cards would even be on my list. I would head straight for apogee or something like that.

And if money was really not an issue, everyone on this bbs would get a new soundcard compliments of frist44.

well so much for that, back down to reality, maybe next time guys.

I used the Delta 1010 for a while and I liked it a lot. The quality was really good even with a standard sound card and no pre amp. I cannot compare to the other one because ive never used it but Delta makes great stuff and if you are decent with computers you will have no problem with the 1010.
