Anyone have experience or know much about the RME Hammerfall Cards and Converters.
To allow 16 tracks recorded simultaneously do I have to buy two break out boxes? What operating system and software works well with it?
Thanks Jim

I dont know a lot about the hammerfalls but I wish I had one.
Im guessing your talking about the multiface unit with 8 analog ins and outs. To record 16 tracks I do believe you would need 2 of these units chained. However, dont know if it would be cheaper, but you could get a 16 chl. external mixer.
Logic Audio has been tested with the hammerfall series and has worked very well with it. I know this because I use Logic and remember reading an article on it.
In fact here is the article:

Well, the hammerfall 9652 works fine with W2K, that I can confirm. As for the convertors, you can use 2 with 8 i/o's or a single one with 16. It's up to you. If you mean the RME convertors, I haven't used those. Concerning applications: used it with CEP, Sonar and Samplitude without problem. Only 8 channel for now, so cannot tell if it is as good with 16.

The Hammerfall 9652 also works very well with Cubase VST32 and W98SE for me: solid as a rock. You can use any converters you like with it. I also haven't used the RME converters (I use the converters in my Fostex gear), but they have a very good reputation among some folks I respect quite highly.

At the very least, for a digital I/O card, the Hammerfall would be very hard to beat. With enough channels of converters available, you can record and playback 26 channels at a time- 24 ADAT, 2 S/PDIF. It's been a good tool.
