Ripping and Playing

Should i get crackly, slowed performance from winamp while i am ripping a cd? i look at my CPU usage while i am ripping with CDex and it is at 100%. what could this mean?

I usually don't try to do much else when I am ripping or burning.

That depends on the generation of computer you have. I can play audio while ripping and burning and I have a 700mhz.
It may be best to not do other things while ripping or mixing.
It goes to 100% to max out the processor and speed of operation.
 
the thing is i have a pretty good machine

athlon xp 1.43 gighz
512 ram

seems like i should be able to rip and do other stuff. but that's not the case.
