Ringing in right channel - MR8

Last night, I turned on my MR-8 to play what I had recorded the previous evening and I noticed right away this ringing only in the right channel, sort of like a feedback kind of sound but not exactly. The sound wasn't present when I played back the track the night before so I thought this was quite strange. So, not knowing what else to do, I turned the unit off and then back on and played the same recording - ringing gone. I then recorded some new material, played it back, no ringing. Any of you experienced a problem like this? I sure hope it's not a re-occurring thing.
 
I have not seen that here.

One thing to try if it occurs again, is to use the track copy function and copy the track(s) that appears to be ringing to another unused track(s). Then see if the copied track still rings. That may give you some insight to the source of the problem.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks, Ed. What I was listening to was the original track on track 1 and the same track bounced over to track 7, so I'm thinking maybe that had something to do with it. Track 7 had also been converted to a .wav file.
 
What size CF card do you have? Was it the original, or an add-on? Some add-on cards have problems with bounce.

The original card (128mb?) Never been taken out since I got the unit back in February.
 
The standard card should bounce fine. Sure sounds like some sort of one of a kind glitch.

Several users reported a similar type of headphone distortion early this year. Best we could determine was that the MR-8 has an issue with bad power - one guy noticed it when his wife was running the vacuum cleaner, I got it with a cheap extension cord and a thousand other things running at once. In each case, users only had the problem once or twice and it always seemed related to an unstable power source.

Best thing is to not panic, as in the previous cases nothing was wrong with recorded tracks - just turn off/on, as you did.
 
Ah yes, that ringing sound. Just turn it off, let it sit a bit, and usually (though not always), that does the trick.
It's one of the endearing charms of the MR8, gotta love it.
 
I still remember my first right channel ringing incidence.... ahhh, to be young again... but alas, youth has fled this hollowed vessel...

Thanks. I was quite relieved when I did power it off and back on and it wasn't there anymore. I was paranoid that I unplugged the USB cable at the wrong time or something. The unit's in the same room as my computer and stereo components - there's a whole lot of things plugged in in there, a couple of power strips, etc.
 
Sounds like power. With most users it only happened once or twice, early on, and never came back - (like a guitar, maybe it just needs to get 'broken in'!)
 
This same thing has happened to me and I think it definitely has something to do with the headphone jacks or something to do with the headphone power (don't know all the technical jargon concerning the headphone part). I think this because when it has happened for me I just unplugged the headphones from 1 and plugged it into 2 or vice versa and it immediately corrected the problem. By the way, with mine sometimes it is a ringing, other times it is distortion.

i dont take any chances with my mr8, after having read all the posts on this site and hearing about all the weird problems users have experianced i only plug my mr8 into the uniterreptible power supply that my pc uses. it has a large battery in it that keeps a steady voltage level.

the power company often has brownouts which is a dip in the voltage supplied to our homes that we cant notice, but our electronic devices have to work harder to function and after a while this wears the compononts and shortens their life span.


it seems the mr8 is very sensitive to power levels so it might be a good idea to have a ups if u dont already, its good for your pc too..
