hi there, quite new to this. Would appreciate it anyone can shed some light onto a quite annoying problem ive been having recently.

when recording, the right channel records louder than the left channel.
have been using garage band on my mac but i dont think thats the problem because ive downloaded a reaper trial todayand its doing the same thing.
i have all my instrument going into a wharfedale 1202 mixer then feeding into the mac via usb.
Nothing is panned on the the mixer.
Its strange because, when i am playing keyboard or guitar in real time there is no problem. It only becomes an issue once the part has been recorded and i attempt to play it back

How are you listening to the playback? Headphones/ Speakers? Into what are they plugged? Have you tried switching the connections, i.e. swapping left and right?

im listening through headphones, they are plugged into the "phones" output on the mixer.

How does it sound in the headphones when you are listening to a direct input to the mixer? If left & right are equal when you try that, I would suspect that some part of the USB-computer connection is a little deficient. Could be a simple as replacing the USB cable, or it could be in the mixer's A-D converter, or in the computer's USB jack or system (try a different USB port, too).

It sounds perfectly fine at the direct input of mixer.

Ive swapped the usb
ive swapped the usb channel on the mac
ive changed from stereo to mono
anything recorde in mono has a terrible crackle upon playback.

When recording in stereo i can see both the tracks as they are being layed down on garageband. They look roughly the same size in amplitude. But then as soon as i stop the recording the left channels amplitude shrinks

Do you have anything (plugin fx) going to either channel (Or the master?) in samplitude?

What Dave says. Maybe yyou've got something on the output bus that's messing up the playback.

To identify the problem and eliminate possibilites, sart very simply, i.e. a mono track into a vanilla set up.

The add bits and see when the problem emerges.

thanks for your input people, ive just this second fixed it. It was the mixer.
I noticed that when i was playing music through itunes>headphone, it was fine, but as soon as i put the headphones onto the mixer like i have been, it was loosing a big chunk of the left track.
theres two wee buttons on the wharfedale next to the usb input, usb to phones/ usb to main, one of them wasnt pushed down and thats sorted it. Praise allah!
