Howdy chumps, i'm looking to get a new ride cymbal because for some reason i'm still using a Paiste 302 budget ride. It's ok for a cheap cymbal, but it's not responding how i'd like. I also have a Zildjian earth ride which is about a foot thick and fucking rocks! Thing is, i play in different bands doing different things. The earth ride's cool for full-on heavy balls-out rock, but not so good for gentle brush work. I'm into Sabian at the moment if that helps, what i want is a cymbal that will respond well at very low volumes, not too "pingy", i like a fairly long decay. Also it mustn't get too washy when the urge to rock is awakened, and it must have a loud bell. Confused? i know the best thing to do is try a bunch out, i'm just interested to get some thoughts from fellow drummers. Have a listen to "Spiderland" by Slint or the track "Salo" by The For Carnation, that's the sort of thing i'm after.
