Sounds pretty nice. Love the Van Halen style bu vox. Would like to hear the lead vox just a tad more, but maybe not.

I like it - solid job - I hear Weazer and The Cult mixed in - some things about it though - sounds very dated like a 90s mix -for me the vocals need to be raised up - and the guitars brought back down a tad - and the Doubling Ozzy type sound on the vocals is not good - makes it sound out of tune even though it’s not really - the Bass needs more definition and low end - at least for the style it appears you are going for -

I listened to the Wav file - much better - in fact I would say the mix is clearer and more defined - the Vocal double sounds great on the Wave file - and the mix balance is so much better - It makes me wonder whats happening on the conversion - what are you using to convert? To Mix?

Yeah that rocks. Enjoyed that. More to my liking than most of what I hear on here. Just listened in my brand new Toyota Tundra and the mix sounds great. It's got kind of an April Wine vibe to it and that lead guitar that's kind of a slash vibe to it. Well done sir that was fun

I like it. I would push up the guitar leads out of the chorus a little more. Cool STP vibe.

Par for the course, yes?

That's a great question! It isn't often that an mp3 file sounds really good on my cell phone. So yeah, details on that would be interesting.

This isn't a genre I listen to much at all, so I was hesitant to comment. I'll just say the overall mix sounds balanced to me. But the guitars sound a little harsh to my ears, and I think the vocal could use some more body, and maybe even a .5 to 1db boost to get more above the guitars. But it's close enough that you might not want to touch it and throw something else out of balance. I'd try the boost and see if anything else then sounds off, and if so, just leave it. It just sounds like some frequency masking between the guitars and vocals.

Love this one.

Shades of Girlfriend by Matthew Sweet. The excellent chorus is a more commercial Bob Mould!

The vocals doesn't really feel like they're upfront. Probably some frequency clashing with the guitars. Other than that I think it sounds great!

Vocals have quite a bit of delay and verb more than i would normally use that maybe it when i get home ill try backing a bit off

I want to say a little bit more about this excellent composition, and why I like it so much.

It reminds me of times waiting for the bus for work in the late 90s with The Colour and The Shape and There is Nothing Left To Lose by the Foo Fighters on repeat in my minidisc player. It's got Grohl's pop/rock tuneful sensibilities down pat, before he went too chug heavy.

I think the opening stop/start is great, but it comes back in a few measures too late for me. It feels a bit behind where the silent drumbeat would be. Could be what you are going for, but I am hitting a big air crash a bit earlier where there isn't one.

The brilliant chorus. The low and high vocals (an octave or some other distance apart). The guitars twisting around the melody at the same time. Sublime. I think the song should be called Living a Lie, to capitalise on that amazing hook. Others can comment on the eq and compression, I just think it's fucking superb.

It's not too short at 4 minutes, and certainly doesn't outstay its welcome, but I could easily listen to a few more chorus repeats or an extended outro for another 30 seconds to a minute, no problem.

Is it a solo home studio effort or a band in a studio recording? Does it get played live for a lucky audience? Good stuff.

Thanks for probably the nicest write up ive ever had great to hear this. I had actually abandoned this song for a couple years because I felt it was too hair metal sounding. To be fair, I have removed some of the guitars that contributed to that in the mix, especially on the chorus. It probably still does sound that way to some. This is a solo studio project. I played and sung everything but the drums and the ending guitar solo. The late stop you talk about in the intro is intentional because I felt the on beat stop was too predictable but maybe it still is better. It’s trivial to move that intro guitar so it’s a typical stop start and on non delayed beat

Extremely well written song, so it could work in a number of genres. I especially like the bridge. Things are nicely balanced, and I wanted to listen to it again right after I heard it the first time. I would like only a few minor tweaks: 1) the vocals need to be more up front. They are a bit buried and hard to hear. It is always a fine line between not enough and too much. If they are more up front, the doubling at the chorus will also have more impact. 2) I love the bridge and it offers the opportunity to highlight the vocals and the interesting harmonies. Bringing down the backline might provide contrast to the rest of the song and spotlight the vocals. After hearing something like this, I feel like I suck as a songwriter.

So I know what’s driving the 90s sound - it’s similar to STP - whomever is singing has Scott Weiland qualities - and the guitars are reminiscent of Dean DeLeo - at least that’s what I hear - solid tune - who sang?

I sang and played everything but the Gtr solo and drums. I dont' think it sounds like STP personally but everyone hears different.

I raised the vocals almost everywhere considerably. added a Tamborine on chorus and a ref whistle in intro. hand claps during second verse. Tightened up alot of the vocals especially the double during verses. added harmonies during bridge and a bg vocal idea on last chorus
