It will be hard to give advice without an idea of what's wrong. Posting an mp3 would be ideal.

that doesnt sound like the greatest mic placement job in the world... i think you should start there before worrying about eq.

That's your problem right there. You're not getting the stick sound. I've never seen a ride miced from underneath.

Is that a M201?

i typically use the three mic method with excellent results. i like the X-Y set up for overheads, or if thats not giving me enough stereo seperation, then an ORTF set up. putting the mic beneath the ride could give an interesting sound, but i think micing from above in this case will create a 'better' sound.

i have no idea what mic that is, but pretty much every pro session ive seen the ride has been mic'd from underneath and u flip the phase 180, the sound i have is fine im just lookin for some eq'ing tips

Not to be rude, but why are you looking for eq tips when the sound is fine already?

mainly cuz i dont leave a dry sound i like to spice things up a bit and normally i just use overheads and a hihat mic but i felt the particular song needed more definition from the ride so i close mic'd it, so just seeing if anyone else had any eq that they normally use on their ride tracks

also i dont think its an M201, its too long the M201 is really short

personally I'd use a steep low pass filter at about 350 Hz

Really, I don't know though, I don't usually mic the ride seperately myself. I just use an D112 on kick, a 57 on snare and two 603's for overheads. Sometimes I like another dynamic on the low tom that I can pan off for more of a full sound. I also like to find wierd places for a condensor room mic to throw into the mix.

Do you have any audio clips of the full mix? It's hard to tell how the ride is fitting in there just from that mic's sound clip. To me it sounds dull but then again, in context of the full drum mix or full song mix it's hard to say.
