Tried to keep the title simple for future searchers.
I've been experimenting with ribbon mics for tracking my drums. I'm using a pair of Nady's and so far have been placing them about 3 ft. in front of the tom rack about 30" high, just a bit lower than the cymbals. This gets me a nice cymbal sound and believe it or not it also picks up the snare very well.
I'd like to get more ideas on placement.
Will it harm the ribbons if the mics are overhead hanging parallel to the floor?
