Rhode nt1-a or CAD GXL2200? Please help...

Hi, my name is Chris. I'm starting off to create a home studio and I'd like to have your suggestions on which microphone to buy, the Rhode nt1-a or CAD GXL2200SP. Both are in studio pack but the latter is still cheaper by around $100. I need opinions on the vocal recording qualities for these mics. A lot of people say the one from Rhode should be better. I know for a fact that some mics are just expensive because of the name. Can you really hear a better quality sound when you use the one from Rhode or does the CAD GXL2200 do the job just as good? Is it possible to achieve Alex Goot recording quality with these mics? Thank you very much :)
 
Well - if I were up against choosing between those two. I would go with the Rode. :thumbs up:
 
I use the Rode and like it. As I always point out, some people don't like it. According to what I've read, Rode have a reputation of producing mics that perform above their price range - Henry, do you think that's a fair statement?

Yes it is Jonny.
Not that CAD doesn't make good stuff. I just find that it's easier to cuttle up and make out with a Rode.
 
First of all, I'd like to thank you all for answering my question :) I appreciate it much. So you guys do mean that the Rode Nt1a should have a better recording quality for vocals right? :)
 
There is no ONE microphone that will be used on every job/voice.
You will find the NT1a in a lot of microphone lockers though. ;)
 
Given the right factors in recording, is it possible to achieve professional audio quality recording similar to those industry standard music using the CAD GXL2200? Or can you still notice a bit of quality difference?
 
Anything is possible.
It's just that you want to try and achieve the final product with minimal production steps as possible.
 
I'm not exactly operating at a pro level, but if my nt1a was the only mic left I wouldn't be upset.
I don't have the CAD for comparison but +1 to finding the rode in a lot of lockers.

Same thinking here; i'm very open in saying that i'm not the worlds biggest fan of the NT1a, but i wouldn't turn my nose up at it if it was all that was available to me. Saying that, if you can find the original mat grey NT1 (without the "a" on the end) then i'd go for that over the NT1a every time. You could probably pick one up on ebay for the same price as the CAD thing
