Well I am always interested in new plug ins (although up front I will tell you I am no big expert on them). After visiting the Cakewalk Direct X files, I got the Thelotron BeatModel plugs ins ($99 download) and the CloneEnsemble ($25). I previewed them in Cool Edit using a Gregorian Chant Vocal Loop and some string sounds. For $99 I thought the Thelotron was a pretty good buy... the plug ins were fun to use and pretty intuitive... seemed to have a better sound that plug ins that cost a lot more a couple of years ago... you get a bunch too (14) so if you are looking for some reasonably priced decent plug ins try em (I am also a fan of the Ultrafunk plug ins--for some reason, these remind me of them).
The Clonensemble is mostly a chorus.... supposedly with automatic variances that should make it sound more realistic, but to me, didn't sound any better than most of the chorus settings I use now. Maybe I am just not using it correctly, but I systematically varied a number of parameters. But for $25, it will be fun to continue to play with (I've only had it a day, maybe I figure out more about it later)
As stated, just something to chew on. Would be interested in others opions of these plug ins.
Take Care
