Hey... just thaught I'd drop a line for all you bass players out there.

The bass player in our band just got some new equipment in.... and damn it's NICE.

We got a Hartke 3500 head, and a Hartke 2200 professional series cab.

The cab comes with 2 -- 12's, fairly compact, casters, and side handles. Sounds very, very good! Clean, and handles quite the boat load of power.

Secon, the head. Ooooh baby! Damn this thing is just loaded with possibilities... and it's not even the best one they make!

Has two small preamps built in, "Tube and "Solid State". These pre's have their own gain control, and you can mix the two if you like.
The input takes an active input, or passive.
Also has a 10 band eq with a button to disable it, if need be. Built in compression (i really like that part), and high and low passive contours.

Oh.. one more thing. This is kinda lame, but I love little inovations like this.
The head has a handle built on to the side. You can carry it around like a brief case. Lame? Kinda... but sometimes the little things are like that toy at the bottom of a cereal box =)

This thing sounds damn good right outa the box... no effects needed. I'm sure all you hardcore people can find better... but I think this head is definatlly something worth taking a look at.

Besides that -

THIS SETUP BLOWS THE SHIT OUTA THAT GOD DAMN PILE OF CRAP CRAT BX160 COMBO!

we're so happy now =)

Hartke make gret bass amps, plug one into a nice ampeg cab and you've got one shit hot set up. plug in fx, compressors, reverbs and gates are a pain in the arse in my view, i'm all for the 10 second set up, plug lead into amp, plug other head into cab, plug instrument in, turn on, turn up and groooove!

Yep, hartke head is cool. Needs some tweaking the EQ though, but very usable and reasonable price.
Their newer stuff (with the parametric EQ) sounds like shit to me and the 7000 head is only a louder version of the 3500 (dual amp) so actually the 3500 IS the top-of-the-line by hartke.

Not sure about the cabinets though... the ones without tweeters aren't good and the metallic sound a bit to hard to my ears. Maybe the ampeg cab, dunno.

Good luck with it.

Very nice set up! Although I prefer Boogie, I know that amp and it is very, very sweet. Might wanna consider a 15" to go with the 12's.

I have played through the same Hartke 3500 head and 4x10 cab for 11 years now. I cannot seem to find anything that I like better.

One more thing I like about the Hartke 3500, on the back you can adjust the volume/gain of the XLR output. It is great when sound men are complaining about too much/too little signal from ya.

Yea, then the sound man can get on with complaining that my guitar is too damn loud.
