anyone have experience or tips in going about this? i have an old amp speaker i think i'll do this to.

The speaker doesn't need to be very large. A light 8" would be just fine. Think bookshelf stereo speakers, then you're going the right direction.

When I've seen it done, the guy had the front head off. The speaker was suspended (cone facing the beater) and used rubber bands looped through the speaker mounting holes and the long end looped around the tuning keys.

I don't think you'll get a great sound out of it, but it may be usuable with a good para-eq. From what I remember there was more of a dirty thud than clean. But, I only heard it through a PA.

have done it . Make shure the speaker is not too powerful. if you can find an old drum shell or a plastic barrel to mount it in you are golden. They work ok, definately need another mic in addition to these.

i posted a thread on this a long time ago ... and i scessfully built one ... hang on let me find the thread

yeah if you plug a pair of headphones into an input you can talk through one side, I think if I'm not mistaken it's the left.

yeah. microphones and amps are transducers. i've heard stuff from a microphone too.

never knew it was any good for kick mics. i could probably mix it with a ldc that will cut through with highs.

You normally use the speaker with something like a 57 placed inside the kick, right where the beater hits to pick up the attack.

use it with any mic you would use on a kick, its more or less the same as a yamaha subkick. my best results were actually with an old speaker that had a double cone in it(one little one about 5 inches sticking infront of a 12) it was really clean, acutally really sensitive and captured a wider range of bass than the 8 inch speaker i used before. but yeah it will suck on its own, you need another mic with it
