Slowing becoming un-noob.
So my cousin suggested these guitars to me. I haven't had the chance to try them out at all, but apparently they are damn good guitars.

Seems like they have a good thing going for them. Thinking of one of those as opposed to a American Standard Tele for my next guitar.
hmm....

I went into a small store near me that carries them. I like their designs (visually) and pickup combinations (like those with tele bridge and "revtron" neck). I have only heard good things about them and they've actually put thought into the pickups. they're great if you don't like changing pickups (even current production MIA fenders often need a pickup swap, don't they?)

I only played 1 reverend - a p90 equipped guitar that remotely resembled an SG - it doesn't really look like SG, but it's "sg inspired", just like some other are lp or fender inspired. It was VERY good sounding through a tube amp and felt very good.

Me, though, I can't afford even one of them, so my choice would invariably be a guitar from Rondo Music. But then, I DO like to swap pickups. And I like GFS pickups.

If you can get to a Reverend - play some, you migh like them.

Alright, so I'll make this as quick as I can.
I made it to a store to try them out. All I have to say is...I now have a new guitar :D It's absolutely beautiful and plays and sounds AMAZING.

It played WAY better than any guitar I have laid my hands on. I tried out a bunch of guitars in the store, including the American Standard Tele that I was considering. The Tele felt like crap and sounded nowhere as good as the Reverend. Took me a while to drop that much money, but it was totally worth it. I also tried another Reverend in the store with a soapbar pickup in the neck and then a umm...a pickup that looked like a "classic gibson '57 pickup"(just surfed MF to find a similar one.) It didn't sound anywhere near the buckshot. Too round, not much attack, and definitely just didn't feel right.

I STRONGLY suggest Reverend guitars to anyone looking at higher priced guitars. They are $600 guitars that play and sound like $1200. No joke.

Great score-it looks like a traditional Tele Custom with an Art Deco treatment-but with a Filter-tron neck pickup and tun-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece for extra sustain. From you're description it sounds like it plays just as good as it looks-very cool indeed!!:D

I used to have a Reverend Rumble fish Bass
Now I regret ever getting rid of it.

I cant say much about their 6 string guitars though.

If you've got the extra cash, go with the tele. But, if you want to have a few extra bucks to delegate to your peddal/effects fund, go with the Reverend. They're great guitars!

A buddy of mine actually bought a Rocco-looking model (though I can't recall if that's the actual one he ended up picking up) and I had a few opportunities to sit down and play on it. I was very impressed with its versatility. I might even be so bold to say that (some) Reverend products are comparable to the playability of (some) strats.

As always, make sure you play it before you buy it.

elenore, nice score!

I've had my eyes on the Reverends for a while, but there are no nearby dealers so I have not been able to get my mitts on one. I really like their lineup.

Enjoy! :)

Yeah, I'm VERY pleased with the purchase. I bought it and still haven't been able to plug it into an amp (since playing it through a princeton reverb in the store), today is the day I get back to my amp and I can't wait. Although I've spent hours these last couple days playing it, it just feels so perfect. The neck and fretwork seems flawless. (to me, but to be honest I'm not sure how to tell :o) But yeah. I can't get enough of it.
Once again I strongly recommend trying these guitars before purchasing other guitars in the price-range.
I was lucky, I was at relatives for thankgiving. My cousin (the only other real musician in the family) suggested the guitars to me. So he brought me to the shop, and I picked up the guitar and was amazed. I read about them online and what not, what the kind of wood, electronics, etc. Everything seemed good, so I bought it. Probably the biggest impulse buy I've ever experienced.

Fantastic purchase. And wow, that was a lengthy one. Sorry about that.

I'm going to go play some more :D

nice looking git. i easily agree about them being a better value than MIA fenders. and a more unusual shape, without looking "cheap".

I am very interested in your review, especially the neck pickup. And you have the SCXD, so it's a perfect point of reference for me

I'd really love to get one of their Warhawk II 390 guitars, and put a vibrato of some sort on it...be it a Bigsby or a Les Trem (which I've seen as optional equipment on Reverend guitars, and I know Stew Mac carries 'em, otherwise). It'd be interesting to hear how 3x P90s compare to 3x Strat single coils.

Yeah, I'll definitely write some sort of review on it. Considering I'm pretty bad at writing reviews...I'll do my best.
Any particular setting on the SCXD or pickup selection you want me to try out?
Just let me know, and I'll gladly try it out.
I plugged it into my SCXD for the first time today, sounds fantastic. The bridge pickup is very clear, and definitely has a different sound than my humbuckers on my other guitar. Must be the single coil:rolleyes:
But yeah. Let me know if you want me to try anything specific. Otherwise I'll try and throw together a little review sometime soon.

Ok, for either pickup and for both mixed together:

1. Clean channel on 8 or even 10 (that's among the best SCXD has). for a variation (if you play surf music) you can try this with "spring reverb" really cranked.

2. Voicing #2 (bassman) - you'll have to play around with gain, EQ, etc. about the same loudness as the clean above.

3. Voicing #9 (british crunch)

these are the ones i've been using so far. not because they're the best, but because i can get what i want with very little tweaking. i just hardly have the time to try them all

You're doing fine so far...now I want one!*

*at least I want to go try one out.

Reverends are great guitars. I have Club King HB in a wine color (N/A anymore) and I just got a Gill Parris model in black (Christmas gift from my wife). I have been a Fender guy for many many years and this is the first guitar that has ever made even think about changing to a different brand. I like everything about these guitars, the necks are just superb with excellent fret work plus they have 25 ½ scale length (same as fender) so they feel the same. The electronics and pickups are wonderful so there is no need to replace them. Plus they are very cool looking.
I used to own at least 3 or 4 strats and at least 1 tele, now I only own two strats and one tele and am thinking of selling one of strats and my tele, because I just don’t play them anymore since I got my Reverends. I am also looking at the Buckshot as my tele replacement. Just great guitars at an unbelievable price.

That would be an excellent purchase.

Reverends are the SHIT!

I recorded a band where the guitarist had a Rocco and that was a hot sounding guitar. The bass player had a lava swirl rumblefish which sounded so mean....really grumbley.

So clean channel on volume level 8 or 10? Oh damn. Alright, I'll definitely have to wait til I'm home from school, ha. Everyone in the dorms would kill me...

I'll mess around with those other two some time. I'll get this to you hopefully in about 3 weeks. (I go home in like 2 1/2 weeks...so yeah)

Those are some great looking guitars :D
I'd DEFINITELY recommend the Buckshot. The more I play it, the more I grow to love it. It's just so fantastic. You're so right about the neck and the frets and pickups...Everything is just like...perfect, ha.

Hell yeah, I love my Reverend now. I think that they'll definitely be my main guitars from now on..

well, 19, I can wait, no problem. How about trying those at 4 or 5 for now?

Well I haven't had a computer available for a couple weeks now, and I forgot which settings you asked me to review. I get home tomorrow, and will review these for ya. No worries, I haven't forgotten.

From what I can say with it cranked...(I got to try this out just the other day)..I ran through all the settings with it cranked, and this guitar sounds fantastic. I'm not so sure I like the humbucker neck pickup, being used to a single coil neck pickup, but it's definitely growing on me.
The guitar really brought some more bite to my sound, but more full than my other guitar. This is as far as the bridge pickup goes.
The neck pickup is much more fat, and with the bass roll-off knob on the guitar you can make it sound more single-coilesque but it still has a little more in your face fatness than I'm used to.

All the voicings you mentioned (from what I remember running through all of them) sounded pretty good. I don't really know any specifics. I mainly use voices 1, 3, 8, and 13. So none of the ones you mentioned.

My favorite sound is with both pickups together when used for clean. (Voice #1) and then I really like the neck pickup, bass rolled off, #8, gain 10. VERY warm crunch that sounds fantastic for some rockin' blues and what not.
On #3 and #13 I love the sound of the bridge pickup alone, although I need to shield my guitar due to excessive noise from the pickup. Still sounds great though when playing, just have to look into the whole shielding thing.

Hope that helps at all. I'll do a more thorough review on your requested settings in a couple days hopefully.

thanks, elliott. i'll look forward to those clips.

i usually like playing with both pickups "on" too.

I also like the clean channel (cranked) and my favorite voicings are #2 for "bassman" type "clean" that can go "gritty" when pushed. I like #9 for marshall-esque crunch and still playing around between 7 and 8 to find a beatles-sparkley clean.
