Reverb etc...for acoustic guitar/vocals

Hello...I have a really modest setup: Tascam 424 MKIII 4 track recorder and a Shure 57 mic. I'm looking to add effects (reverb, EQ, etc...) to acoustic guitar, other acoustic instruments, and vocals. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I've got about $100 to spend. (note - I have no problem purchasing used or from eBay). I've looked at some of the Digitech products...I saw a TSR24 for $100. Any good? If anyone has any info on where I begin, I'd really appreciate it. I've never worked with recording before, let alone effects,and I'm really lost. Thanks!

Use the $100.00 to buy yourself a reallllllllllllllllly great dinner. Your other option is to hand it over to a salesman who will use it for the same purpose.
 
In that price range you're very limted to options - you can get the Alesis Microverb for $100. This won't help you with compression but it's a start. Avoid the Alesis Micro Compressor it isn't too good.
 
How much would I half to spend to get something half decent?
 
IMHO the Digitech would be a good bet if it's in good working order.I have the same processor (SDISC) that's in the TSR24 in a Digitech guitar preamp(GSP2101) and the FX and EQ are of pretty good quality especially considering the box is over 6 years old.The TSR24 was their high end FX unit circa 1994.

I asked a question like this before, and Sonusman suggested a Lexicon Lxp-1. He said that it was his main reverb, and after listening to his work, I bought one.

It cost around $125-165 on ebay, and you will NOT regret it. THe lexicon reverbs are nice on vocals, and my guitar playing friend was almost wailing when he ran his guitar through some of those effects.


As a multi fx box, it also includes gated reverb, chorus, delay, as well as (plate, small room, medium room, large room and hall modes).

What I really like about it is that I can control more settings via midi with a free utility that I downloaded off Lexicons web site.

The front panel has delay and decay, which will work great in a heartbeat, but with midi, you can control extra settings like Bass multiply, high cut filter, diffusion, feedback, room size in meters, early reflection.

I really like diffusion, and I like to turn it to 100% it makes the effect thicker.

SO just search ebay for "lexicon lxp-1" and have yourself a field day.

ps. THe the lxp-5 is mainly a delay unit. the lxp-1 is the box for reverbs.
 
also, I just checked on ebay, and with 10 hours to go, there is an LXP1/lxp-5 combo that is currently at $154.

microverb 4

i bought an alesis microverb 4 and love it. easy to use, phat delay's, chourus', however, new it'll set u back twice as much as u want to spend, but trust me dude, it's well worth it for a first fx processor.
 
Hmmmm...

...you're buying/recommending gear like the Microverb 4, and yet you're worried about gold-tipped connectors?!?!?!

Reverb...

I play out acoustically a lot and I purchased a Alesis Nanoverb for around $85-90. It's easy to use and very portable, and I use it frequently in my home studio with the Alesis Nanocomp for a Compressor for about the same price.

I would recommend the ZOOM RFX-300...

I think it will meet your needs on a modest setup and sure fits your price range.

I am interested to get one as well.... why don't you check it out?

Dude, that $155 deal on ebay is HOT!!! Don't mess with those silly wannabe processors. The LXP1 will smoke them all.

Lexicon - heard all over the world. (advertisement slogan....:) )

Hello and thank you to everyone who offered their help and suggestions on the reverb unit. I ended up purchasing a lexicon lxp-1 on ebay for $130. Not bad eh? Its on its way as I write. I'll be back with many more questions when it arrives...Thanks!

you got it cheaper than I got mine.

Make sure to download the editor(its actually a reflex editor) from lexicon.com . It gives you more options via midi
