ReValver from MIDI tracks? or is it waiting for a 'real' guitar?

More of what will probably be many newbie pains.

How come I can apply EDIROL VSC as an OUT channel with MIDI tracks, but the Alien Connections ReValver doesn't do anything with MIDI, no matter what I try to do?

Part 2, I haven't got a single sound out of an audio track yet--I have no external instruments yet (sold everything about 4 years ago after thinking it was time to give up LOL). I'm buying a Strat next week, and for now, I'm going to (hopefully) be going straight in to the Line-In of my sound card, direct and dry with the guitar. Is that the beginnings of creating AUDIO tracks with Sonar? And is that what the ReValver is looking for--audio? I mean, I'm primarily a guitar player, and the ReValver is the closest I've seen to a guitar rack in Sonar.

This is frustrating, think I need a few good primer tutes for MIDI. Any recommendations?

Sorry for being such a big dummy here.

Thanks very much,
Shawn

The Revalver is only a effect (as in it doesen't produce sounds, only changing them), and the reason it's a DXi is because it's possible to control the parameters via MIDI (I guess)...

And you won't have any luck connecting the Strat (good choice!) directly to the Line In, some sort of amplification must be done, either with a DI-box or a amp simulator or micing up an amp. (And to record your guitar you need an audiotrack in Sonar, yes).

You might want to check out Amplitube. Just wait a little bit, and it will be a DirectX effect (as opposed to VST which cannot be used directly in Sonar).

Thanks Moskus. The Amplitude looks pretty cool. My aim is to get as clean a signal as possible into the computer, and manipulate the signal from there. One of the reasons I'm going this route, is that I'm in an apartment now, plan on being here for a while, so no more miking:)

A DI box--is that just a clean level-changing device (direct in?). If so, do you have any recommendations?

Feel like an idiot here, want my basement, my M80, and my little Fostex back till I get this stuff all figured out (just kidding, I'm loving this, just a little--:)yeah right:)--overwhelmed).

Well I figured out the ReValver thing, sort of LOL...If you make the EDIROL your in, you can make it clean, and in the console add the ReValver as an effect. Neat. - But not a bloody guitar (this stinks, playing notes with a freakin mouse LOL).

I don't know... I'm pretty happy with my cheap Behringer DI-box. ;)

Thanks Boss! I mean, Thanks, uh, Behringer, uh...ya. Bad box humour...

Thanks Moskus!

damn, moskus,

you know, this is the first time I looked at your avatar directly.
From the reading perspective it always looked like a ninja to me somehow. You know, from the corner of your eye. A big, purple faced ninja....:D

Tabnak, for a better image, click here.

It's the logo to my "music procject", Magnesium. If Will Smith could make "Willenium" then Magnus (as that's my real name) can make "Magnesium"! :D
