Well, I got a steal on a second ADAT XT20 (only about $1000) - but it made my new Yamaha board limited - it can't really handle 16 channels that well, esp. with only one digital I/O card - so I had to return it. Besides, I HATED the way it EQ'd/preamped stuff.

So I'm debating what to do next. I liked the Alesis Studio 32 with it's in-line monitoring, but I want to get a board that can grow with me. (I sound like a sissy man there, but you know what I mean - the 32 only has 16 channels) -

so I'm thinking the 32*8*8 Mackie analog board. It has dedicated tape returns I can run thru a fader - and I hate patchbays - It's big, reliable, and has lots of extra channels for effects, etc. - And compared to what I paid for the Yahama stuff ($1800) - the Mackie could run me less than an additional $1000 - not too bad on the pocketbook.

It should function as well as a Studio 32, which is what I used to have before the bass player stole it - any recommendations/disses? And please note - I'm not getting the Yamaha 02R, because I want the knobs in front of me - what a horrible EQ - and I'm not paying $6000 for a mixer - I'll probably top out at $3000 - ideas?
