Resurrecting old recordings...

Hi all. For the past month I've been learning drums (Roland TD-6S Vdrum set) and having a blast doing so. When listeing to the following track please keep that in mind, as well as the fact the original acoustic guitar track wasn't 100% in tempo the entire time (making it rather challenging to play along).

I'm currently unemployed so I'm using some of that time wisely and converting old audio tapes and recordings to digital format. In the process I came across a few recordings from 2001 (that were mostly remakes of mid 1990s material). I particularly enjoyed "Reaching Away" and decided to add drums, bass, and guitars to the otherwise bland acoustic/vocal rock song. So enjoy "Reaching Away 2005".

Ok, listening to Clay Sparrow:

First impression, pretty nice, good tones on guitars.

The drumming leaves a lot to be desired in every way. Timing is bad in quite a few spots and the drum track lacks any real feel. The snare sound is strange, sounds like someone put a Pod on it or something, it doesn't fit the peice at all.

Ok, I know a "fade it before the bad drum mistakes" fade when I hear one.

Needs a vocal.

Edit: not bad for your second song drumming!

What one man was yesterday makes not a man today? OR is it because I called him on his previous mean spirited attacks... the man's on my shit list permanently. He knows I don't want his input but still posts it. Sounds like an ego issue to me.

And there's a nice gem left on my reputation for this thread. Obscenity and vulgarity is certainly appreciated!

BTW, he's wrong about a few things... so his post isn't exactly "decent". As usual it's the world of music according to jakeoff 101. What do YOU think scrubs?

I think the song has potential. There are some timing issues, however. The drum sounds don't really bother me. The guitars are o.k., but, if you're going to do a blues instrumental, you'd better have some smokin' chops. The lead tone is too distorted for my taste. I like the bassline.

We still have "time" to record a new lead track if we want. I think Lew even wanted to but I was pleased with the take. Maybe we'll record it again next week.

The drums are a bit flakey and loose, but mainly because of the rhythm track not being as tight as I would have liked. Still learning the art of tracking with a kit and no metronome. The drums weren't faded because of a impending weakness/mistake, there just wasn't anything left to the song and that's how I decided to end it. Granted, I'm a long ways from being a real drummer, but if there's anything I have coming into the instrument it's a good sense of timing.

If it's a lover's dispute, jakeoff's rep feedback indicated it's not likely with me unless I have a tail, drag a plow, and sleep in my own shit.

Fortunately the staff of this site appear to be aware of jakeoff's less than stellar attitude and immediately corrected the 'problem'. In this case thousands of posts are an indicator of a lifelessness, not musical knowledge (or worth as a member).

I've banned lesser trash than jakeoff on my forums, and they're never missed.
