greetings all! Here's my quandry: I have a vocal on a Roland VS1680 that I want to dump into Cool Edit Pro 2. After getting the "perfect take", I have discovered that the input level was too hot and the track is not clean. Is there anything out there that will help me save this "once in a lifetime" performance (short of altering the EQ so much that it destroys the character of the track? Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

you can try dumping it into Cool Edit go to effects/noise reduction/clip restoration. Beyond that I wouldn't have a clue I guess.

Thanks for your answer, but i've tried to dump it once and used every plug-in known to man, yet none of them seem fix the problem without altering the track beyond recognition. What i'm looking for is something that will separate the wave into parts (fundamental frequencies, overtones, and anomalies) further allowing me to keep the parts of the wave that i want and discard the parts I don't. I've tried Sonic Laundry's Denoiser with disappointing results. If anyone knows of a wave editor that will do this please inform. Thanks again for your patience and understanding.

I think if the track is toasted it's distorting on all or most frequencies. Singling out the bad is definately gonna leave you the good and remove the bad, sounds like the bad ones are the ones you need to keep to make it sound right.

Distortion (clipping) is not the same as noise which is probably why noise reduction software is not doing what you want. I don't think any software exists that can un-distort a track. Your only option may be to re-track it. Sorry.

You're dreaming. What you want to do is akin to selectively removing some of the the pigments from paint after you've put it on the wall and it's dried.

A clipped track is a clipped track and no magic can un-clip it.

Bad news my friend. There's nothing I know of that can remove distortion. Time to retrack and pay attention to your levels.
