I want a place to rehearse a band in, I anticipate that we will probably will only use electronic drums which can be turned down if we get any complaints.
The garage is at the end of the garden about 13 metres away. It has a pitched roof made of concrete tiles and a single thickness of brick wall.
I intend to build a 'room in a room' out of rockwool and plaster board and 2inch by 4 inch wood. I will probably leave something like a 6inch gap all round including the ceiling.Having read around the subject a bit i still am left with some pretty basic questions and would really appreciate some advice.
How to keep the ceiling up ?
The garage is about five metres square, I am thinking of keeping the ceiling up with some sort of wooden pilar in the middle of the room to keep the room isolated from the joysts above. I have seen pictures of some sort of acoustic hanging devices that can be used and not transmit much sound. Does any one have experience of these ? would a pillar to the concrete floor be ok as far as sound transmission goes ?
How to keep rockwool in place in the stud wall construction ?
How will I keep the rockwool in place in the stud wall if i do not have the rockwool sandwiched between layers of plaster board ? I understand that the plasterboard rockwool plasterboard construction is counterproductive and that two layers of plasterboard should be placed together.
Ventilation
I think there are two options here. Firstly i could make some passive baffles to go inside the studio to go over the hole through the stud wall and external brick wall, however i have no idea how large these holes in the wall should be ?
Secondly I could install some sort of fan in the eves of the garage roof and make a hole through to the ceiling one way and out through the apex of the roof the other way. I would really love some specific details about which fans work and how big they need to be what make the ducts from. I live in the uk .
Thank you for taking time to read this, I have tried to do my home work before posting this but just can't find specific enough anwers to the above.
Thanks again
