hey, guys. I was trying to modify my soundfont banks in audio hq. I have an SB Live card. I figured out how to replace individual instruments in the gm bank that is on my card, but I need to know how to replace the drums? Can I add a seperate drum bank to the standard gm? Do I need to do this in Vienna? When you view the patches that are available, you don't see the drum kits. Can anyone help me? If you use vienna or a soundblaster card, you know how uninformative the manuals are, so I hope we don't go that route! Thanks .

Well, it's 6 months since I've used a SB card. I thought that when I replaced the drums I just loaded a GM bank that sounded fairly good. Then I loaded a Drum-Soundfont. Now, when I played midifiles, the SB Audigy used the GM bank for every sound but drums, where I had GoldDrums...

Dear Ed...
I didn't see any reason why would you use those canned GM sound for drums. Why would you change the bank anyway. Instead, I just load particular new bank written dedicated to Drums sound. Moskus mentioned one of the greatest. GoldDrums. There's alot of GREAT drums soundfont available free to download at www.hammersound.net And if in case you tired of tweaking the Audio HQ to load your SF quickly, use SFLoader. Free to download here

You can set and save your setting, load anytime as you like in no time. It's easy and cool !!!

Or, use VS like BluesMeister suggested.

Hope it helps.

James, you misunderstand. I DON'T want to use the canned GM drum sounds. I want to replace those sounds with my favorite soundfont, and have ANY midi song I load use those drum sounds. Same for piano, bass, and strings. I've tried those huge GM soundfont banks, and I don't like any of them. I don't care for Live Synth, because I have to load every soundfont individually for every song. I like to listen to MIDI files that I download off the net. I do tons of sequencing, and I like to see what others are doing. But it's a pain in the ass to have to load up all my soundfonts for song 'A', listen to it, then move on to song 'B' and have to do it all over again. Basically, I need to create my own soundfont bank, and I kinda have it figured out, but Vienna is a strange program to work in, and the documentation sucks. I don't think the word 'save' shows up in there anywhere, and that's where I have problems. I don't think I'm saving correctly. I'll get it, though. Thanks

BluesMeister Shuffles His Feet

Yes, well hi guys and thanks for mentioning my name.

I feel a tad embarrased right now because I've been having a spot of bother with that prog that I usually recommend ;)

There's definitely a love/hate relationship going on here between ol' BluesMeister and VS3.

In a scrotum, (that's a nutshell:)) VS3 will only perform for me if it's the first prog opened after a cold-boot. If I've used, say MM JukeBox and then I fire up HS2002 I get the dreaded Audio Format blah blah Driver Already In Use blah blah Use Anway? message. So that's worth remembering for future reference.

Many times VS3 has crashed on me, and it's important to Ctrl+Alt+Del to open up the dialogue box of currently running apps to End Task VS3BIN, otherwise you'll get caught up in an endless loop of crashes each time you try to re-launch VS3.

I can't say definitely, but I strongly suspect the crashes occur because I've changed the EWX sync from internal to external because I've been playing one of my Celine Dion CDs.

Oh, when Celine warbles I go all weak at the knees... I have to leave the room... I cry. I can never forgive Terrence & Philip for ridiculing Celine on South Park. My Celine would NEVER wear a paper bag over her head!!!

I have had VS3 running successfully as a DXi in HS2002. What I can't do at present is, when opening the Channel 10 Piano Roll View is view the names of the individual instruments (snare, Ride Cymbal 1, Hi-Hat, etc) What I see is the keyboard :( Bit of a bummer if trying to compose a drum track using VS3. I will solve that anomaly given time though. Ol' BluesyBoy is nothing if not patient. ;)

VS3 is in Beta test at the mo. When it's finished it will rule the World...

Oh and Jaymz, thanks for that link to The Greatest GM Soundfont. As we Aussies are wont to say: I'll give it a burl. :)

GoldDrums Rule!:D
