Hi, I recently recorded drums at a guy's home studio. My snare drum wasn't sounding to good, and somehow..using replacement software (i guess) he replaced it, and it sounds amazing. Does anyone know anything of this? Or have any recommendations of programs to buy or d/l? Or even how it works? Something with like when the sound hits a certain frequency it replaces the sound..

Thanks

Sound Replacer by digidesign.

This technique is very common in modern rock and pop records.

Sound Replacer is for ProTools and Drumagog is for the direct-x crowd. What software are you using?

Are there any VST Plugins that do this? Possibly FREE ones? Hehehe.

I haven't been able to find anything.

The new version of Drumagog will be VST. It should be out in a couple of months. It will also work on Mac.

My Software

I currently use Cool Edit Pro..but heard that I shouldn't, so I got Sonar 3. I havn't fully moved over to Sonar 3 yet, but working on it.

I don't know a whole lot about pro tools, but i'm guessing I cant use it? I have no hardware or software by digidesign

Drumagog

Wow this program works really well. I'm wondering if there are any free places to download a bit more samples. I'm sure Farview's rock cd is great...but for $94, its's a bit over my budget for right now. (Prices wouldn't be negotiatable would they?). I'm just looking for something to kinda monkey around with, I'm no professional..lemme know if anyone has any places to download these files, or buy for cheap.

Thanks

Yep, the gog and others work great. You'll find you have to use these programs for drummers with really horrible kits or tuning skills on the kick drum. I know I do. That or hook up a trigger to their _insert bad piece of kit here_ and use the MIDI to trigger a sample instead.

Now that you have it, you can go to the drumagog site and download all kinds of samples ( even a couple from my CD ) That should do ya for a while.
