I'm looking to get replacement pickups for my Les Paul Classic. It came with the black and white, zebra pickups which I love the look of. I am a rhythm player and am looking for something that will give me a rhythm sound on both clean and distortion. The clean is especially lacking in the stock pickups. All suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Go to your local guitar tech and ask about installing coil taps..use push pull pots..this will give you single coil sounds{cleaner/briter} out of your humbuckers...

The Gibson 57 Classic and 57 Classic Plus have great clean sounds, and are made to sound like a '57 LP. Gibsons replacements are more expensive than their competitors though.

Gibson and Seymour Duncan have several models that would fit the sound you are looking for. Check their websites for info. Replacing pickups is trial and error and don't read TOO much into reviews and recommendations. You have a take a risk to find a sound you like sometimes. Also go to a guitar repair shop and ask because they tend to have expertise on pickups, at least more so than some hack at the mega guitar store.

I replaced the stock pickups in my Les Paul because it seemed geared for heavy music. I wanted a cleaner neck pickup and a punchier bridge pickup. I went with Bill Lawrence L-500's, a 500C in the neck and a 500L in the bridge. These are rail type pickups but they did exactly what I wanted. I can play clean blues or dirty rock or heavy metal with this set up. It sounds wonderful!

Depends on what you want and whether you want to saty with Gibson.

The Holy Grail for most at the moment seems to be Burstbuckers, but they are tough to get hold of.

A pair of Pearly Gates or 57 Classics would give you the warm clear tone for rythm, though the 57s might stand up better for a distorted Rythm sound.

Try out www.lespaulforum.org for the low down. Good people there who take their Lesters very seriously.

Classic 57s !

They're the best Les Paul pickups I heard.

Built in the Gary Moore signature Les Paul,

Mark Knopfler '59 reissue played on "Brothers in Arms" and "On every street" uses the potted version of these 57s if I'm not wrong.

Gonna have them soon.
