I kept seeing advice from people here about renting microphones for projects, but when I actually went to look around for any place to rent pro audio equipment, I couldn't find anything but a couple of places around Kansas City. I'd figure that in a metro (although it is a metro sorely lacking in any sort of music scene) that equipment rental would be a big business. But that's not the case.
I found that it's almost entirely live audio sound reinforcement stuff that's available for rental. The one place I saw that rented pro audio microphones had rates so high that you could buy the mics for the same price of renting them for more than a day.
If your area has a good music scene, has lots of recording studios in the area (like Austin, Memphis, New York, Los Angeles, etc.) then you might have better luck than I did here in KC.
