Removing the Buzz

I'm mixing some tracks that I recorded using Cubase SX. One of the tracks is an electric guitar which has single coil pickups which means that there is a background buzz which I want to remove. The question is how? Any ideas?

Cubase has a noise reduction process under audio processing.
Try that.

Is the buzz loud while the guitar is playing? If so you are kinda screwed. If not just mute the track when the guitar isn't playing. Most of the buzz should get lost in the mix.

Unless you have a Cedar system noise reduction stinks. Noise is better than aliasing warble.

sorry bro but thats non curable unless you have some GOOD ASS noise reduction plug in's.... the built in Cubase ones just aren't gonna cut it... you'd be better off using a guitar with humbuckers and put the toggel switch in the neck posistion and turning up the highs and reducing the lows and play with the mids to get the single ciol pick up sound if thats what your REALLY looking for... personally I never use single coils even when I play ska.

There are a few references to (GOOD ASS) plugins for noise reduction on this thread...but, does anyone have any actually experience? ie...anyone know specifically a GOOD ASS noise reduction plugin that they have used and used succesfully?

I've used a lot of them from Cool Edit to Pro Tools and any noise remover is also a tone remover. There is NO way to remove noise without negatively affecting the tone of the track.

The best that I've tried as far as plugins are the Waves Restoration bundle. See:

Basically get a noise profile during a section that you are not playing, apply it and tweak as necessary.

You should however try to fix this problem at the source.

depending where the buzz lies, you may be able to get away with a lo-pass or hi-pass filter, or simple eqing. you'll loose some of the fatness of the tone, but no buzz.

Sonic Solutions' NoNoise is a "goodass" noise remover. I'm not sure if it's supported on anything other than the now-defunct Sonic Solutions platform and Pro tools. But I had tape hiss removed from one of my albums during mastering with NoNoise, and there weren't any artifacts.

I don't think so. The audio division broke off into a smaller company.

Wow, I had no idea. I thought they just threw in the towel, I remember a few releases that shipped before they were ready, and a lot of irate customers... but their mastering platform always kicked ass.
