Removing reverb?

I recorded a live speaking event where the speaker has a lot of reverb in his voice. What is the best way to remove or clean up this unwanted reverb without destroy the quality?

I know of no non destructive way to remove reverb. You could fool around with a gate but you'll hear it working. Once its there, its a mother to try to remove.
 
I only know of one way to reduce reverb though you can't remove it.

You make a profile of the reverb tail in your noise reduction plug. It really messes the vocal up. I have heard of taking a sample of the tail and generating a wave the full length and reversing the polarity of it after its pasted onto another track to help reduce it. I have an articel on ambience reduction that mastering engineers use to some extent, or you can Contact Bob Katz and buy a K-Stereo processor :)

You could try using an expander. It will only help if the direct sound is a lot louder then the echo. If they are pretty close in volume you are screwed.
 
I was able to get the 2nd track recorded through a directional mic along with the 1st track with the reverb. The 2nd track audio is kinda hollow sounding but cleaner than track 1. Thanks for the help.
