I got around to trying this a couple of days ago but I couldn't get the transformer out. The 545sd is different than a sm57 in how the transformer is held in. There are two blobs of epoxy, about the size of a pencil eraser, that hold the transformer in. The hot glue mentioned for the sm57 is just below the transformer around the transformer wires and doesn't appear to be holding it in. I thought the epoxy was hot glue at first and I ruined a good soldering tip trying to heat what I thought was hot glue. I wrapped the tip in foil to protect it but apparently the aluminum had a reaction with the iron coating on the tip and left some black pitting.

Anyway, I wired a mic cable direct to the capsule, to bypass the switch and transformer. I like the sound and wouldn't mind rigging the transformer to be in or out of the signal path. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get the epoxy out. I tried prying it out with a sharp screw driver and there's not enough room to get any kind of saw in there. I don't have a dremel. Any ideas?
