Hi All

I am going to be recording some voice performers over the internet and I was wondering if there were any DAWs or other software that can help with that.

I'm recording a pilot for a project that is kind-of a cross between a radio play and a prime-time TV show.

Jesse,

How are the talents connecting with you, to be recorded? ISDN, SourceConnect, Google Voice, Skype?

By default I'll skype call them and we can talk while they record their data locally and then send it to me afterwards. But I'm looking for better solutions

Jesse,
Skype (audio only call) for remote recording VO is commonly used by the pros. Corey Snow wrote an excellent blog on setting up a mixer's AUX channel to phone-patch with Skype, routing the producer/director's audio feed to his cans: VoxMan» Blog Archive » Setting Up a Phone Patch
The director's feed can be routed to another channel for recording. This may be something you could do with the remote talents, depending on the internet connection quality. However, the record and send-option may provide a better audio sample.

I have heard others getting Mbox Mini 3, and other two-channel interfaces to work as a mix-minus setup.

All that said, your question about a DAW to use: any DAW that you can route channels, for the Skype session, should get you going. I use Reaper. It is free to try for 60 days and cheap to buy. Heck, Audacity may even be a solution for you and it is Free. Maybe some of the others with more Audacity experience will chime in with info about Audacity's routing ability. I have not used it enough to comment.

I guess that will depend on what the talent will be using to record on their end. I sure hope I can set this up. It's a great idea!
