Remixing Audio Tapes

Hello. I have a number of audio tapes from my former lounge band days. recorded on a portable stereo cassette recorder. 1 channel used an open mike the other direct from the PA mixer. I would like to remix the audio and record these to CD. Is there software available which can separate out the various frequencies enough to get vocals, guitars, bass, etc recorded onto seperate tracks for remixing? Or... Is there a better way to accomplish this?

There's no effective way to solo out individual instruments/voices on a stereo or mono mix so you're screwed on that score. If you were to take eight mono tracks (all the same of the entire band) and then try to isolate a particular instrument or voice with equilization and then remix I'm pretty sure you'd be horrified with the results. The phase shift that comes along with EQ that you would be imposing on the individual tracks wouldn't be very musical when you tried to remix them but what the hell, you could give it a shot.
