Unpossible!
Let me know what you think - it was tracked a couple years ago or so. Thought I'd take another crack at it this morning on a whim.

Sounds really good to me Gunnar...I hear nothing I could suggest to do different.

YO!
I like it, a bunch. Most anything I could offer is subjective, but here goes.
I know that tracking was completed on this a couple years ago, but I might suggest tracking a few more guitars, and panning them hard for a nice big stereo spread. It just seems that there is a lot in the center... acoustic.... the electric sounds more stereo, but I can tell there is only one track there. That, and I'd like a smidge more kick drum.

Very nice, on the whole. Good job!

Just as I'm listening..

One thing this song definitely doesn't need IMO is more kick drum.
Kick drum is pretty damn bassy- too much loo end, a couple of offensive freqs there IMO.
Vocals- takes might not be perfect, but the sound of them is great
Acoustic guitar sounds nice
The lead guitar seems to have a very abrupt entry- too loud in the verse I think. And could definitely use a slightly wider image in the chorus I think. It would be a great contrast with the thinner verse sound
Bass sounding good in the background- though def isn't enhanced by the kick
Toms are OK- drums in general sound like the weak point in the tracking
Some nice reverbs happening
Vocals sound too loud in the bridge buildup- and aren't good enough takes to be so prominent I don't think.
Snare close mic'd sounds as though it might be quite nice- more of that coming through might be good, maybe slightly more compression on it too..
Guitars are quite obviously one take doubled. Are they hard panned?

Just a few points that stood out to me as listening. Overall it sounds great though, well done :D

Hi,

Great song and great tracking (as usual)!

The mix has just a few problems:
-the kick is too boomy, needs a 5-6db cut at around 55-65Hz
I thint this will help a lot to give room for the other stuff thats going on
-maybe turn down the whole drumkit, just a few db or make the guitars
and bass louder :-)
-the mix needs a little cut in the 650-800Hz area and a boost at around 2500Hz

I made a little file to show you what I mean :-)
After the cutting, the bass needs too come up again, and maybe I would turn the kick down a bit.(thats just how I like it better)

I allways like the tunes you post !

Ok, I took a lot of the suggestions, as well as some issues I had after listening for a bit. I don't know if this is much better. I have discovered that the bottom end changes when I export the mixdown, and again when it converts to MP3. Each conversion seems to deepen the lowend. Odd.

i can't comment on tone...sounds great. changing anything would be stylistic. i don't listen to enough pop to know what it "should" be.

the lead vox don't sit sometimes. as stated, the takes could be better. it sounds like the singer can do better, but these aren't his best. in the chorus "i can" - those need more vocal support. the "am i over my head now" could definitely go for another couple takes. oh...and they're slightly dry i think. i know you automate it briefly for transition from chorus to verse...but a little more reverb the whole time might help. not much though. just a little

did the band recommend the laugh at the beginning?

i think if you could take the lead guitar before the build up...copy it and put it to another track

cut the first repetition of the "ti-do so" of the riff off ...tack it to the end.

in effect you would be double tracking it without another take.

but as it builds, make the original and the double widen with automation.

just an idea.

The laugh was kind of a joke. I think it needs something in front of the song so it doesn't start so harshly. :)

I did some stuff with some vocal takes I had, don't know if it's better. i need to go in and tighten up the timing.

Better?

it is probably just the speakers on my laptop (no headphones right now.), but my only critique could be the bass. i can't make it out in some parts. it is one of the driving forces in the tune, and i could use a bit more.

beyond that, cool song! Great voice, cool guitar tones, tight drum pattern. cool layout! :)!

Well MP3 sucks anyways !
Stupid invention, it killed the hifi !!

Great song and great recording.

Nice vocals on this.

I'm listening on cans, and so I don't hear too much deepness in the kick. Possibly it could use just a hair more attack???? Not sure.

I'm not sure what it is about the bass that doesn't grab me. It could be a little too quiet in the mix, or the tone may be a bit "ho-hum".

But this is serious nit-picking, because this is a very good sounding recording and mix. (you're clearly a better engineer than Supercreep or myself, and I hope to get more of your advice in the future.)

Latest mix. Sounds really good. I'd lower the lead guitar or thin its lower mids at :30 and 1:13 by a dB as it's competing with the vocal. I'd raise the individual punctuating acoustic gtr strums at :15 and around 1:58 by a dB as it sounds good and could come out more.

I'd just like to add my kudos to the performance and the recording/mixing. Good band and good mix!

The last mix is pretty good !

Still a little problem at the lowend:-)

The only things that I would do, is to shift the frequencies of the bass and the kick.Cut the bass at the 60 Hz area and let it be prominent at about 120 so cut the kick at 120 a bit(or turn it arround). Maybe the bass needs a little boost at 2000 too, so he sticks out a bit more.

Great mix !!!

DUDE!

I love this song... And, I think you really dialed it in here. There is a place or two where the vocal still jumps out ahead of the mix... maybe try making the threshold a tad lower on your compressor, or a little higher ratio, just to tame the dynamics of that vocal.
The bottom end is really thumping now. I LOVE IT! This is with my little headphones, so it actually could be a little much through a full range system with a sub... but only a listen through such a system would reveal that.

Bravo! :D

A really good song & performance.
My only nit would be that the bass sounds very European or Kissdisco.

Thanks to everybody that commented. The bass was recorded thru an eden head with some screwed up compression on it, so it won't come out quite the way I want it. :(

And Video killed the Radio Star.:D

Dig the tune. I am listening to the newest I think, sounds like a solid mix. My only nit is that is seems to be lacking in the high frequency range, it sounds just a hair muted. Other than that, its a well balanced mix and a good song.
