Hi, I can't seem to find the messages for sending tracks out to the computer via spdif. I have a VF08 and want to send them via spdif into my Cool Edit Pro program on my computer. Now, if I record on, let't say 6 tracks...how do I send them out to Cool Edit and keep the tracks in sync without mixing down. I think I heard that you mark a spot before you get into the start of the recording, then line them up once they are in the puter. Now again, I understand how you could hit a note on the first track, when you are recording the guitar.....but how would you make that spike in the next track you record. I think those who record know what I am asking. Anyway, a quick reminder of a simple tip or trick would be greatly appreciated. IAT Psongman

Without sync you'll have to just press record and play together and shuffle them into sync on your sequencer (cubase, nuendo etc).

Wow, what kind of a reply was that. I mean, like it made no sense. I have been getting a lot of answers to inquiries like this lately. I was asking how you mark tracks so you can sync them up in the software proggie you send them into. An intelligent response would be much appreciated. Psongman

tracks

i use the mr 8 and n track, when i send files to computer, thery are in sync already, i would think with the more expensive recorder and more expensive program, they would be in set together also, very weird

With spdif you can send one stereo track or two mono tracks at one time, if you wanted to send more than that who will need to sync your vf08 machine to cool edit (one being slave one being master) so if you hit play on the master the slave will follow therefore "in sync" so you can drop your tracks down one by one.

But you need them to sync together and im not sure that you can do this simply with spdif, you can do it via midi time code or word clock output from your VF08 to your soundcard vice versa.

Slate all the tracks by recording a "click" at the beginning of the tune. You can only transfer two tracks at a time via S/PDIF so once you have transfered all the tracks to your software multitracker (in your case CEP), drag all the tracks into allignment using the "click" as a reference (by zooming in, you can line them up to sample accuracy).
As far as sync issues, you have to set the tracks to record from S/PDIF. This is a clock issue where the recorder has to sync to the incoming data stream (the VF 8 would be the clock master and the soundcard the slave, unless of course you're using an external word clock generator for everything).

Hi, first of all, I want to thank all who posted. You have helped me tremendously with my initial recordings. Now, I do have the manual. it says it will send all the tracks out via spdif, even the ones not on 1-8, the virtual ones. So for me, that is a real plus, so basically you do have more than an 8 track, if you use the computer to mix...now, am I right about that. Also it says a pilot signal is made, and the sound is sent in track pairs. So, Track Rat (great name, by the way), says to slate the signal, but wouldn't that only be on the first part of the recording, let's say, laying down the drum tracks...how would that translate to all the other tracks, acoustic guitar, keys, vocals, for example. See, I want to really understand how to use this unit before I step up to a 16 track, which looks like it won't be long. So, please keep this thread going, as I believe this will assist those who are transferring tracks to computer from our digital recorders. Thanks again, Psongman
