anyone used, heard info on the neve produced 1073 mic preamp? They are less than the older ones and I would think a bit more reliable as they are new.Thinking about getting one.

...can't speak for those, but the Golden Age Pre73 clone is surprisingly good value at $299...if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can upgrade the transformers to the same as used by Neve (Carnhills)...I have a rebuilt vintage 1073 and the Pre73 is not quite the same but for the price it's very much in the ballpark...more inf here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end-theory/340153-golden-age-project-pre73.html
...truth is, they vary from piece to piece, much like most vintage gear...mine sounds great...mine is actually a 1290 which is a 1073 without the EQ section...less circuits to malfunction...the Pre73 uses an almost identical circuit to mine (just with cheaper components)...but listen to the sound clips on that thread comparing the Pre73 with a real vintage 1073...not alot of difference...definately worth $299...
