Sorry, I know this was covered, but I searched with no success. After reformatting XP Pro, what's the order that I need to reinstall the drivers and programs?

BTW, I'm adding two brand new drives and keeping my old ones by connecting them with a Promisetech PCI ATA controller card (4 total HDD's). Thanks.

If you're keeping your old drives, why do you need to reinstall?

Uh, Bulls Hit, he did say he reformatted. Maybe you should ask, "why did you reformat?"

I don't know that the order of installing things is terribly important, or that anyone could even give you any useful hints without knowing what hardware and what applications you have.

Really generally, I would be sure all your hardware devices were installed and seemed to be working properly before installing any applications that use them.

Bulls Hit,

I'm keeping my old drives for storage.

AlChuck,

I didn't reformat yet, but I read somewhere on these boards that the order of driver installation was important. I could be wrong.

Here are my specs:

Mobo: P4T533-C
Processor: P4 2.4B
Soundcards: SB Live, 2x Aardvark DP2496
RAM: 1024
CDRW: Plextor 24x
DVD: Pioneer (front load)
Old HDD1: 40gig Seagate 2mb cache (OS and files)
Old HDD2: 60gig Maxtor 2mb cache (Audio)
New HDD1: 160gig Hitachi 8mb cache (OS and files)
New HDD2: 160gig Seagate 8mb cache (Audio)
PCI Controller: Promise ULTRA100 TX2 (not installed yet)
OS: Windows XP Pro
Recording Software: Sonar 2.2XL

...I think that's it.
Is it better to add new hardware, then reformat, or vice-versa?

Thanks.

In any Windows install that I've ever done, it was Windows that chose the order of driver installation.

Unless you plan on physically removing the components during the OS install, WinXp will decide the order the drivers are installed.

I just reformatted myself not to long ago as said above as XP finds your new hardware pop in the appropriate disk. It worked fine for me.

Thanks. So I guess I'll install the PCI PATA controller first, then reformat to allow Windows detect it. After that, I'll install the mobo drivers, video card drivers, then the soundcard drivers. Thanks again.
