Reference monitors getting hot, throwing off heat:

I have read a number of reviews of certain speakers having these heating problems, some commonly, some being re-engineered because of the problem. How common is this? Do many speakers behave like that?

I could see some with high powered built in amps doing that, but you probably need to site something of reference. Mine are high powered, but they do not throw of any heat that I can notice (mine probably throw some heat off as it as an amp)
 
From the review, it was a defective pair. I do not have a heat problem with mine (KRK) and have not heard of any stating this is a problem with other monitors. I've had mine on for a few hours and it is not warm to the touch.

Thanks, but there were a lot of people who had trouble with that model, as the three pages of reviews show. I read some others but forget which models. I just wondered if it was a common problem, but perhaps not.
 
Mine (Sonodyne SM100AK) doesn't throw off any heat either unless I turn them up real loud. If I do that, they almost smell a bit burnt (what's the deal with that?).
 
I have HR624s. If you put your hand on one of the amp units you'd know it was on, but I certainly wouldn't call it hot.
