Whenever I get my toms sounding good, I'll hit my kick and the sound waves from the kick make the heads on my toms vibrate. Ive tried muting them, but then they sound to dead. How do I reach a happy medium between nice toms with good decay and toms that are silent when I want them to be?

What kind of mounting hardware do you have?

I use a RIMS mount for my problem toms. Makes a big difference for me.

Try moon gel pads. They're awesome, and you can cut them to whatever size you want. I'm sure a strategicly placed piece will solve your problem.

I'm having the same problem, If I put the mic (audix D4) 3'' from the tom it helps a little, but then I have the snare to lous on my tom mics =\

I'll have to try the moon gel stuff. I'm not sure that special mounting hardware would help me much because my rack toms are on a stand and have no connection with the bass drum, so I think its just sound waves that are causing the vibrations. Also I dont have the money to get any new hardware.

I've tried backing my tom mics away too, and although it helped reduce the vibration getting on the tracks, it eliminated the sound I was going for with the close mics, defeating their purpose.
