Hello,

I am in the process of acquiring a sound card with better resolution than my creative audigy 2. I am looking at the Delta 1010 PCI card, which will allow 24bit/96khz recording. Most of my old stuff is in 16bit/22khz.

When I get the card, I plan to use 24bit/44.1khz recording. In sonar, how do I reduce the 24bit masters I will make to 16bit?? I am interested in hearing how to reduce my resolution of future works...thanks in advance
Kane

Oops, I meant I have been recroding at 16bit/44.1khz and I wish to, in the future, to record in 24bit/44.1khz....too early for nyquist... :)

You do this when you export the final mix. There will be a choice in the export dialog menu to set the bit rate of the exported file. Make sure you enable dithering in the Sonar audio options.

(I am assuming you want to do this in order to burn CD's, and that there will be no futher processing of the exported file. If there is further processing, you should leave the file at 24 bit. Bit reduction and dithering should be the very last thing you do before burning to CD.)

BTW, the dirthering algorithm in Sonare 3.X and earlier does not have the greatest reputation. Apparently it has been upgraded in S4.
