reduce feedback?

i have a gretsch tennessee rose. any time i play it in medium to high gain situations it does nothing but feed back if i'm not constantly strumming. i know this is to be expected with a hollow body, but is there any way to help make it be not so bad??

Fill it with cotton wool.
Turn down.
Put your speaker in front of you pointintg away from you.
Damp the strings when not strumming.
Etc.
Me, I like my semi to howl.

A parametric EQ would allow you to cut the offending frequencies without killing your tone.
