Reduce carrying sound

Hi guys,

I'm helping out a local youth club who are considering offering rehearsal space to local bands. Thing is, they have other people using the building at the proposed times. The rooms are far apart, but the sounds really seems to carry down the corridors. I plan to install proper seals around the (fire rated) doors. I can't change anything structurally but is there anything I can do to reduce the carry?

The noise will be made in the Music Room and other people will be in the Young Scot room. I thought about installing absorptive material on the wall across from the Music Room. Should I place some along the corridor to the Young Scot room?

Cheers

Hall ways in buildings are always a problem with sound transmission as they are usually solid surfaces and no furniture. You could hang some sound absorption panels in the hall ways, did this at my studio so that sound did not carry down the hall between the recording room and the control room. Works a treat.

You could make up the panels veery cheap and cover them with coloured fabric. Make them as large as possible if you can hang some from the hall ceiling on short chains so that the sound is absorbed from the top and bottom (see the panes on my web site in the recording area and control room). Carpet in the hall also helps a lot.

And good seals on the doors that you are going to install.

Cheers
