hey senor hornet, i was reading about the md8 and came under the impression that if you mess up a take on the md8 that you ahve to erase the take then redo it. not just blast right over it erasing while recording the new take?

Hey Kristian:

How's things down at the local pub? I'll have a Scotch neat. {but from the Colonies, I need ice.}

Nay, nay, man. Many times I've been doing the bass line on a track of my MD-8 and I botch it up; NO NEED TO ERASE THE TRACK. I just stop and push the button, get back to the start and restart and RECORD RIGHT OVER WHATEVER I BOTCHED UP. Never have had a problem.

I usually get the drum track down first; then, I get in some chords; then, I add the bass line; after that, it's whatever I feel will work in a particular tune. About a month ago I wrote two ISLAND-RHYTHM type tunes; I added the steel drums to fill in some spots after I had most of the tune down. Then, there is always a spot to add in strings, etc.

As I said above, NO NEED TO ERASE THE TRACK; JUST GO BACK TO START, ARM THE TRACK TO RECORD AND PUSH START.

Hope this helps,

cool, ive been looking at this piece of equipment for live recording at gigs, seems like it could be cool.

Yo Kristian:>

Forgot to tell you that when over-dubbing on the MD-8, you need to put all recorded tracks in the CUE mode. If you don't put the tracks into the CUE mode, TRACKS THAT HAVE BEEN RECORDED, funny things will happen, like you may lose ALL OF the data on the disc. It happened to me a couple of times before I learned (by reading the manual) [and viewing this site] that is what needed to be done. In the cue mode, you don't really worry about volume/or EQ or anything. When all of the tracks are done, and you are going to MIX DOWN, that is when you tweak all the tracks and that is when you may make five or six versions of the tracks using various reverbs, etc.

Well, I'm sure you'll enjoy the MD-8.

I've never had that happen but something else you may want to watch out for...

When bouncing tracks with the GROUP function, make sure the GROUP assign buttons for the FX send are not depressed (they should be happy..ha,ha). If they are down and corrospond to the tracks you're bouncing to, the reverb or whatever is going along and may end up all over the place!
