Noticed this morning that Guitar Center has the MXL 990/991 combo pack with mounts for $70.
Now I know these are not high end mikes, but for a beginner, it's a nice set for a very low price.
When you're ready to step up, you can mod these for 200-250 (circuit, capsule and screen) each and end up with some very nice quality mikes.
$570 for a quality SDC/LDC pair, and you can start out with a small investment of only $70. The carry case and mike clips are worth half that...
