recording with TC Elec's effects processor

Hi. I have a quick question for those with experience with the TC Electronics M-One or M-300 effects processors. I have a very simple recording setup. I'm recording with a Soundblaster Live soundcard running on a PC with Cakewalk software. For now, I'm recording straight into the input jacks of the soundcard. Can I run a vocal mic and/or drum machine into the TC Electronics M-One or M-300 and out directly into the input jacks of the soundcard? I also have a small, tube-driven ART MP Studio preamp that I can put in the signal path before the processor if I have to boost the signal going into it. Would that be necessary? Or will neither option work, and will I have to buy a mixing board and run the processor through the send/return of the board and then go out from the board into the soundcard?
 
You can patch it as you describe above. You'll wanna use your preamp with the mic or the DM.

You can also record your tracks dry, then route the sc output through the processor and do a pass with FX. You might have to align the FX'd track back up with the previously recorded tracks due to latency.
 
just to clarify - you'll want to use your preamp with the mic BEFORE it goes into the effects box.

However, I would do what c7sus says in his second paragraph. Record it dry and then add the effects afterward.

Hey thanks for the replies. I'm new to this page; I used to spend most of my internet time at various guitar pages. Now that I'm getting happier with my guitar rig I'd like to spend more time working on recording my tunes. So I might be checking this page out more in the future.
