Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem..

I am trying to record an acoustic guitar only song with my fender dg-14s (12 string). I record through a DeanMarkley promag soundhole pickup, and whenever I play the guitar anywhere near my computer with it connected, I get this awful hum that will not go away. Im wondering if it doesn't have something to do with magnetic shielding? My speakers are cyber acoustics and they say they are magnetically shielded. when I use a mic (which I hate doing since many of my mics are crap), I get no hum but the sound is less than what I want. Can anyone solve my problem or present an alternate solution? thanks in advance!

The noise is not from your computer speakers, it's from your monitor.

Either turn the monitor off while recording (yuck), move farther back, or try turning the guitar until the hum is minimized. Usually if you turn 90 degrees to the monitor, the hum will all but disappear...but it can be hard to hold the position while playing.

Even a pretty cheap mic is likely to give you a better, more natural sound than a pro-mag. Once the hum problem is taken care of, you might want to try a combination of the mic and pick-up. Mic for ambiance and roundness and pick-up for attack.

I know Slack already answered your question. Just offering a suggestion.:)
